Invoking the spirit of Woodstock, Totnes, Dick’s underpants and current environmental policies, El-Cojones are going green for 2009 – yes, we are well on the way to becoming Devon’s first rock band to be powered solely by wind.
Whilst governments argue over wind farms, solar power and tidal barriers, we have grasped the nettle in both hands and are now running a 3k P.A. rig, lights and backline purely from natural methane. Dick‘s carefully prepared Xmas special chestnut stuffing has meant the band is really pumped up for 2009 and we have been blowing audiences away all over the place. The amazed, not to say stunned, reactions of some the crowds as we air our new talent have been well worth the cost of the repairs and divorce; the lasers look particularly good reflecting and dancing in the haze over the white faced crowd.
While we still have trouble getting the full experience to the back of larger venues, the more intimate gigs are taking on a whole new ambience, with many people telling us they have never known anything like it as the door slams behind them. The Union Inn, Newton Abbot is hoping to re-open soon once Environmental Health is satisfied that it was a temporary problem.
Let’s hope we continue to fill our gigs with the unique taste of El-Cojones.
God Bless Real Ale, veg curry and Dick’s chestnut stuffing.
