Never the same act twice The Showman, Exeter on Fri 28th Jul 06
Tonight it was the turn of El-Cojones to entertain the crowd here at the Showman. Once again, a fantastic job guys. I think it's a new set of songs including such original classics as 'sit down' by James, 'do you ** on first dates' by Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson and 'she ** hates me' by Puddle of Mud. There was a real air of sophistication about the band tonight: Mike's flies were done up, Chris was at least half dressed, the new drummer called "Oi" had been scribbling on his arms in permanent marker pen, Rick Parfitt of Status Quo fame on saxaphone (so they told me) and Lee Van Eastwood on bass and "I'm the professional" attitude... What line up, then... the highlight of the night, at 10.30pm, The ElCoJones dancers did their stint... they had been sat there all night drinking Pimms punch looking like your normal ballet/rugby player types, but then during a rendition of a great cover of Red House they sprung in to action... obviously prompted by the lead singer who couldn't take his eyes off of these hunks strutting their stuff like true professionals... Then they stripped off and started dancing on the stage..... Of course this didn't faze the singer who is used to being surrounded by naked men while performing at night, balloon dancers minus the balloons... this little stint, obviously instigated by the scheming lead singer put the icing on a great cake of a night. With El-Cojones you can always expect a quality night of music, a clever range of spontaneous comedy and ALWAYS expect the unexpected because that's what this band are all about. They feed off the reaction of the crowd and play the night to suit...I would like to thank El-Cojones who did another great job with the set and the dancers, maybe next time you'll bring along a few ladies!
